Probe disappointing: Gujarat former DGP
THRISSUR: Gujarat former DGP R B Sreekumar said it was unfortunate that the commission that probed the alleged fake encounters in Gujarat between 2002 and 2006 has only recommended actions against subordinates and spared higher officers in police.
Sreekumar said on Saturday that he had submitted in writing before the commission listing instances of top officers giving oral instructions to him to eliminate those disturbing communal peace or Rathayatra.

On the commission rebuking his allegation that Muslim community was targeted by Gujarat police, Sreekumar said, "It must be probed why disproportionately large number of Muslims were murdered in the encounters. There was no definite evidence to prove that they had links with terror groups,'' he said. Sreekumar courted controversy after the Gujarat riots in 2002 for his stand against the then state government headed by Narendra Modi.
